We're changing our Focus

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

AKTJEd is changing it's focus.  Instead of being the local organization for the State we want to be a clearing house for information about TJEd and activities happening that might be of interest to you and your family.

We will include activities statewide as we hear about them.  Check out our links for other websites that offer services that you can participate in.

We know that there is an active group in the Mat-Su Valley offering LEMI projects.  Contact Valerie Owens for more information about that group.  Her number is 746-7055.

In the Kenai and Soldotna areas Lisa Henderson has a group of youth that gather for activities.  Her number is 260-3171.

In the Fairbanks and North Pole areas you can contact Kim Lowry for the latest youth activities and adult book discussion groups.  Kim's number is 488-1899.

In Kodiak contact Amy Earle for an adult book discussion group and youth classes.  Her number is 460-3774.

Williamsburg Academy Seminars

We've had a great time at the past two Williamsburg Academy Seminars with Dan Ralphs!  The youth have been attending two day workshops on Leadership, reading great books, and having engaging conversations about what they're learning.

The adults have enjoyed hearing from Dan in an evening after each youth seminar.  He has helped us understand how to mentor greatness and how to help our youth gain a leadership education.

There are two seminar left in the series.  They will be held March 5-6 and May 7-8.  The books to be read are How to Win Friends and Influence People and The Anatomy of Peace for the March seminar and Gandhi: His Life and Message for the World for the final seminar.

There is still space available if you have a student between the ages of 12 and 18 that is interested in attending.  The adult seminars are available to anyone interested in learning more about mentoring youth.

Online Registration is available at http://www.orchardhouseacademy.com/.  The price for the youth seminar is $50 and the adult seminar is $15 per person or $25 per couple per seminar.
